Born in Brazil and raised in a small American town, David Correy has a voice that captivates people, and a musical talent that syncs you into an inner rhythm. He did show promise even as a young child with ADD, but his beguiling performances took years of training, study, and self discovery.

David reached his status as an acclaimed recording artist by following his Mom’s advice: "If your dreams don't scare you, they're not big enough." So he dreamt big and head out on the narrow and arduous path to greatness. It wasn’t easy. And there’s a lot of pain. But the journey was more valuable than any destination. Learn more about what it took David to become a finalist on the second season of Fox's reality competition series The X Factor and now CEO of Urban Rock Records.

Join me as I talk with David about adversities, trials and triumphs.

In this episode, you will learn...

  • How David Correy discovered his gifts and why he decided to share it for impact.
  • Why raw talent and skills won’t cut it and why even the greats never stop studying and training.
  • Tactics for handling haters and adversities.
  • Why living for something bigger than yourself will make you great.
  • How to use pain to fuel your passion.

Quotes:

  1. "If your dreams don't scare you, they're not big enough." - David Correy
  2. “You have to grasp the concept of becoming in love with the process of becoming great. Not just the result.” - David Correy
  3. “I always tell everybody everyday: If you don't see yourself there, go be great somewhere else." - David Correy

Question:

  • Which specific field do you see yourself being great?

Everyone wants to increase their income, extend their influence, upgrade their lifestyle, and build a meaningful legacy. The best way to accomplish all that is to become an excellent leader. Be a leader in whatever industry, profession, or business you engage in and you’ll improve just about every aspect of your life, including your personal happiness and your ability to uplift others.

But what does it really mean to be a leader?

And what does it take to be an excellent one?

Leadership means more than getting things done. That is why not all managers are leaders. Leadership is not about titles, positions, or hierarchies. Nor is it about seniority or the ability to tell people what to do all the time. These misconceptions cause many old-school CEOs to fail at connecting with ambitious millennials, especially at a time when business landscapes are radically shifting.

Like everything else, there are a lot of myths and falsehoods surrounding leadership and it is critical to reject the shackling mindset behind these myths. More importantly, it is critical to your success to discover and embrace the core principles of leadership.

In this podcast, I’ll walk you through common misconceptions about leadership and give you some tactical approaches you can take to become a good leader. No, there’s no magic spell that instantly turns you into a world class leader. It takes a daily commitment to take the path to leadership. It is a journey that will impact how you spend your time, set goals, plan your day, judge value, and train your skills.

Be warned, this is not a journey for the weak. But if you persist, the results will be life-changing.

In this episode, you will learn . . .

  • Myths about leadership you should ditch immediately. (01:07)
  • What leadership really is and what it takes to be an exceptional leader. (05:53)
  • Why it is important to work more on yourself than on your job. (03:45)
  • The importance of time management and planning. (01:58)
  • Why you need to measure results and hold everyone (including yourself) accountable for business outcomes. (03:58)

Quotes:

"Mindset comes first, results come second."  (01:55)

“Leaders know how to spark their own fire.” (05:04)

“Leaders embrace pressure.” (05:20)

Questions:

What small changes should I make to start building my leadership character?

Feb 16, 2017

We focus an entire episode on how to be an exceptional leader as I discuss my personal leadership transformation and the specific lessons and insights that thought me how to leverage my team's strengths and develop people and leaders. I list down the reasons that leaders fail and what you should do to take full responsibility in your life and in your business. And lastly, I break down the breakthroughs that allowed me to understand the qualities of exceptional leadership.

In this episode, you will learn . . .

  • The true purpose of leadership and how to know if you're doing it right
  • What the top five reasons are that causes leadership to fail and what to do to avoid them
  • The impact of emotion on your decisions and how it affects your team
  • Why it's important for you to work for your team and not the other way around

Quotes:

"Your team is a reflection of you."

"Understand the power of analyzing versus being emotional."

"You have to be the ROCK for the people around you."

Questions:

What do people feel after interacting with you? How do you want to improve that?

EPISODE SHOW NOTES

The vast majority (95%) of people base their actions on moods and feelings. If they don’t feel like working out, they don’t. If they’re not in the mood to write something for their dream book, they won’t. If they don’t feel like waking up early in the morning, they hit the snooze button.

No wonder only a few people become ultra successful, with the rest of humanity barely achieving anything. So if you want to be successful at what you do -- whether you plan on being a world class entrepreneur or practicing your craft like a master -- look at what most people do, then do the exact opposite: Never base your actions on moods or feelings. Instead, base your decisions on results, standards and principles.

That’s what separates ultra successful people from the herd. Successful people are addicted to a sense of accomplishment, and have overcome the natural tendency to avoid tough challenges and take the easy way out.

Join me as I share my experiences and thoughts after engaging extremely successful personalities and finding out exactly what makes them tick.

This podcast will help you gain clarity about your own purpose and what it takes to make those tough calls that will help you breach boundaries and cover new ground.

But you need to make the decision now. Remember, if you hit the snooze button, you’ll end up working for someone who didn’t. If you do what the elite 5% do, then you will definitely improve your sales performance, reach optimum fitness, publish a book, or upscale your business.

The world needs excellent leaders and you need to step up to make a difference. Listen and make a decision now that your future self will thank you for.

In this episode, you will learn . . .

  • The one thing that separates ultra successful people from the rest of humanity. (00:43)
  • How to use “The Decision Train” to work in your favor. (01:19)
  • Why standards and principles always trump moods and feelings. (6:40)

Questions:

  • What do you need to start doing right now?
  • What do you need to stop doing?
  • What do you need to continue doing that’s serving you well?

Quotes:

"Moods are killing people’s results" - Peter Voogd

"How you spend your days is a great measure of who you’re becoming" - Peter Voogd

"Behind every feeling is nothing, but behind every principle and standard is a promise"- Peter Voogd

Is there ever the right time to go all in on dreams, your goals and your ideal lifestyle? Never ever validate or wait for a perfect time. Remember, if it's easy - you don't want it because it's always easier to complain than to get results, it's easier to judge than to show appreciation so always make the tougher decision.

How much did you get paid to give up on your dreams? I wanted to remind you that there's never been a better time than right now to maximize the opportunity to be the best at what you do and live a world-class lifestyle so I'm sharing one of the most-talked about tracks in the ‘Ambition Is Priceless” mixtape Part 2.

In this episode, you will learn . . .

  • why life doesn't get any easier and what you can do about it
  • how to make sure you maximize your opportunity to be better
  • the reason big companies want you to stay in a secure, safe job
  • how to step up, lead by example and be self-sufficient

Quotes:

What if instead of judging people, they appreciate them.

From this moment forward if it's easy, you don't want it.

You have to realize that you're the CEO of your own life.

Question:

What would change in your life if all you ever choose is the tougher choice?

Ask yourself:

What does the tiny inner voice in your soul say about your career, business, or personal life? Are you at the exact spot where the voice says you ought to be?

Jan 6, 2017

Many entrepreneurs focus on how their business plays out in the market, but there’s another game that influences the final score: the one that rages in the mind. Win your inner game and you’re many steps closer to clinching success.

That is how New York Times bestselling author and NeuroGym CEO John Assaraf depicts the mindset of the world’s most successful personalities, how he helps new generations of entrepreneurs develop a winning psychology, and how he recounts his own transition from a teenage gang member into a philanthropist and serial entrepreneur who have built multimillion dollar businesses and generated billions in revenues.

To go beyond his limiting environment and join the big leagues, John -- inspired by a mentor -- played the mind game. He unlearned everything he knew as a teenage crook and spent an hour everyday in the inner game, using his fears to fuel a hunger for success, purpose and meaning.

The idea that positive psychology strongly influences success and happiness is nothing new. But in recent years, more and more studies confirm the link between the brain and our potential to achieve more than we have even thought possible. Neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to reorganize itself into new neural connections, enables us to consciously reprogram our instinctive behavior and develop positive, life-affirming habits.

Join me as I interview John about his early years as an aimless teenager, the pivotal milestone that led him to become one of the world’s leading behavioral experts, and the new scientific techniques you can adopt to elevate your mindset.

In this episode you’ll learn ...

  • How a teenage hoodlum selling drugs transformed into a successful behavioral coach with a heart for philanthropy. (1:56)
  • The psychology and neural processes behind motivation, fear, success, and human potential. (10:12)
  • How to subvert fear and use it to your advantage. (9:04)
  • How to use the mental rehearsal technique to successfully hurdle business, strategic or personal obstacles. (14:39)
  • The replicable steps needed to keep your personal best always levelling up on areas such as finance, health, career, and relationships. (19:10)

Quotes

  1. "If you're interested, you'll do what's convenient. If you're interested, you'll do what's easy. If you're interested, you'll do the simple stuff. But if you're committed, you'll do whatever it takes." -- John Assaraf quoting his mentor, Alan Brown (4:40)
  2. "All of my friends were hoodlums. I didn't have any normal friends ...I knew I had to really break free If I were really going to do something in my life." -- John Assaraf (6:50)
  3. My hunger came out of fear. My fear of being insignificant. My fear of being not smart enough. My fear of being not good enough.“ -- John Assaraf (8:37)
  4. "Motivation is almost always followed by an unpleasant emotion such as fear." -- John Assaraf (12:37)
  5. Fear for a lot of people is something holding them back. I learned how to put fear behind me to push me forward.“ -- John Assaraf (9:04)
  6. If you really take an hour a day and focus on the inner game, you can have anything you want in your life.” -- John Assaraf quoting his mentor, Alan Brown (5:25)
  7. "The reason you want to be aware of your [mental] patterns is to know which ones you want to accelerate and create into a habit vs. the ones you don't want to."  -- John Assaraf (17:15)
  8. "Here's the truth in business: the potential for failure always exists ... You can't get away from that. But the potential for success always exists as well."  -- John Assaraf (17:24)

Ask yourself:

How would you “re-calibrate the thermostat” in your business, professional, or personal life to surpass your achievements in the past year and set a new (and better) normal?

Questions:

Which untold truth stood out to you and why?

Dec 23, 2016

What's a game changer?

The word is thrown around so loosely these days that I want to take a moment to define the traits and truths of real game changers. I used to think of game changers simply as “the best in the world at what they do”. However, it is not that simple and one-dimensional. Over the years, I've come to realize that some people who have achieved tremendous success and significantly impacted their industries weren’t happy. Amid the noise and excitement of excelling, there's a lot of ironies and untold truths about these mislabeled game changers. The one that cuts really deep for me is when an individual has massive success without fulfilment. This is the ultimate failure.

This realization compels me to overhaul the prevailing definition of a game changer. Being a game changer is not just wanting to make money or retiring at a young age. It’s not even about changing your industry or disrupting the market. Real game changers are people who are committed to improve themselves daily and bettering their best, with the ultimate goal of leaving a legacy and serving something a lot bigger than themselves. With this focus, you can find true happiness and live a fulfilling life.

To become a real game changer, you have to 1) spark your own fire: 2) connect with people who will push you to up your game; 3) understand and articulate your message; and 4) develop leaders who conform to high standards of excellence.

Join Markado and I as we talk about how you can become the best version of yourself while keeping your values intact, enjoying a world class lifestyle, and contributing to the success of others. Discover the winning traits that I've studied and emulated in the last 15 years and learn how you can adopt these traits in your own journey into becoming a real game changer and building your own legacy.

In this episode, you will learn . . .

  • The importance of knowing yourself and why you need to be relentless in discovering who you really are.
  • How to build a circle of influence that will support your growth and cut your learning curve in half.
  • How to understand, own and articulate your message by mastering relevant marketing and audience engagement strategies.
  • How to find, attract, and develop other excellence-driven people who will complement you and your weaknesses

Quotes:

"Game changers know themselves" - Peter Voogd

"Plans fail, movements don’t"- Peter Voogd

"Game changers are so on purpose onto a movement or a mission"- Peter Voogd

Question:

What's the one thing among the four traits that you want to go all in on?

What is it like to be around some of the most incredible athletes in this generation? What does it take to get them to the next level? I’m fortunate to have legendary trainer Tim Grover on the show where he discusses his motivations, his philosophy, and how he got elite athletes like Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, Charles Barkley, and Michael Jordan to continuously improve on already unmatched performances.

Here’s the rub. I also ask Tim how workers, entrepreneurs and business owners can similarly upscale their game.

In our in-depth conversation on what defines greatness, Tim -- who wrote the phenomenal book, “Relentless: From Good to Great to Unstoppable” -- shares his ideas and some tactical tips on how to stand out, the best way to cultivate a relentless spirit, and what we should take out of the successes we achieve.

Tim has the unorthodox view that work-life balance is unrealistic, especially among the top 1% of performers who perennially chase perfection. At the highest levels, something has to give. That means you have to set your priorities right and surround yourself with the right people who will support your vision of excellence.

You’ll be surprised and intrigued by Tim’s other views on how to become a superstar in your niche. So I invite you to listen to this podcast, glean the nuggets of wisdom that resonate with your personality, and urgently act on the ones that will get you to the next level.

In this episode, you will learn . . .

  • How to tell if you're a cooler, a closer or a cleaner.
  • The non-negotiable that each individual must work on, on a regular basis.
  • That to watch out for when you are in the right mindset.
  • The importance of having the right people in your inner circle.
  • The best way to recover from a high-level performance.

Quotes:

“You cannot own success, you can only rent success."

“Push beyond what other normal individuals can do”

“All human beings are wired differently not only physically but mentally."

Question:

What will it take for you to become better at your game? What are you willing to sacrifice to deliver it?

Nov 25, 2016

The average millionaire has seven streams of income. In contrast, the average person has more sources of debt than revenue.

If you’re on the bad side of this equation, then it’s time to flip reality on its head and move forward. Peter Voogd moved from being broke to breaking the mould, becoming an authority on millennial entrepreneurship after bagging a string of successes across many business sectors. Austin Netzley moved forward from a middle class upbringing in the cornfields of Ohio to become a textbook definition of “beating the odds”. Saddled with $80,000 in student debts, Austin entered the corporate world, paid his debts within three years, and “retired” at the age of 27. Both of them have been featured in leading publications to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs.

In this podcast, Peter Voogd and Austin Netzley share how they achieved consistent success in their businesses and personal lives. These two elite entrepreneurs have several things in common but three stand out:

  1. There was a point in their lives when they badly wanted to achieve more but had no idea how to do it.
  2. They actively searched for answers everywhere until they reached a point of clarity about who they are and what they want to be, building a core vision in the process.
  3. They acted passionately on that vision.

Incidentally, they also agree that, “only by moving forward will you gain momentum and become unstoppable.” Neither of them had much to begin with, whether in financial capital or business knowledge. All they had was a strong motivation to become more than they were. But it was enough to get them to move forward.

You don’t need to know everything to be able to take the first step. You just need to move -- step by tiny step if necessary -- towards your vision, and you’ll learn about the things you need along the way.

In this episode, you will learn . . .

  • The practical steps two elite entrepreneurs took to become millionaires in their twenties.
  • Why trying to impress people won’t take you very far.
  • How generating value while being yourself can help you achieve freedom and build a meaningful legacy.
  • Some core resources that can help you start a thriving business.
  • Why sustaining entrepreneurial success requires having multiple streams of income.
  • How to break down an ambitious goal into smaller but achievable tasks.
  • How to cut the learning curve to success in half.
  • The core principles behind the bestselling book, Six Months to Six Figures

Quotes:

“Don't fear people and drop the need to be liked”

“The ultimate power is knowing your strengths & weaknesses”

“Dreams are nothing without actions”

Questions:

How can you blast through these roadblocks (like others have done) and move forward to gain momentum?

Nov 17, 2016

Bad things happen. It’s only a question of when, how bad, and whether you’re resilient enough to ride through a bad time.

As you move through life, there’ll be moments of frustration, anger, and discouragement. You had a flat tire on the way to an important meeting. Mortgage rates just went up. A new and aggressive competitor nabbed some of your valued clients. You got fired from a dream job. Your partner wants to break up the relationship. Site traffic is low. Your cat got bitten by a nasty poodle.

So what do you do when times are tough? Do you give in to rage or disappointment? Or do you ignore them as if nothing happened?

How people react to adversity is a good test on whether they are geared up for success. Winners roll with the punches and bounce back with a determined and positive outlook. Losers wallow in their pain (real or imagined) and refuse to take the next step moving forward.

The best way to handle tough times is to face it with what I call “mental toughness.” Your mindset is your best armor when things don’t go your way. To help you build mental toughness, I’ve developed the Focus 5 Activity that I recommend you perform every three to four weeks. This activity helps fill up your core with things that uplift your attitude (gratefulness, pride) and things that motivate you to act on your goals (excitement, results).

In this podcast, we’ll get into the details on how you should perform this 15-minute activity, which I guarantee will help you build a winning mindset that can handle even the toughest of times.

In this episode, you will learn . . .

  • A practical technique to improve your attitude and stay motivated.
  • How to build your confidence through simple mental exercises.
  • How to use personal goals to drive business results.
  • Why being psychologically prepared helps you lift your career or grow your business.

Quotes:

“Once you get into the place of gratitude then you're gonna really pinpoint  what you're proud of”

“Think of 5 things that you are proud of that you can feel excited when you look at”

“One of the deaths of all dreams and ambitions is complacency”

Questions:

What is your first reaction when something negative surprises you?

Nov 10, 2016

Everyone has 24 hours to spend in a day. But the one thing that differentiates successful and influential people from those who perennially struggle is the way they spend their hours. It starts the moment you ought to wake up. If you hit snooze all the time, you’ll end up working for somebody who doesn’t.

To be a game changer, to live the best life you can possibly have, and to get results, you have to rise and grind. You simply have to hustle. After all, time is your most valuable resource and how you view and use it determines whether you’ll achieve success, freedom and fulfilment.

Don’t end up like people who hold a sorry bag of regret through retirement age. People who lived their lives according to the expectations of others, wasting all their precious hours on things they disliked or those that distract them from reaching their goals. If you live day to day like most people who just let circumstances control their lives, you’ll be in a very bumpy ride without getting an inch closer to your dreams.

To succeed, live on your own terms by consciously spending time on the things that matter most to you. Build habits of excellence by doing more to become more.

Never let a day go by without producing value. You can reinforce a critical skill, maximise an experience, give something back to the community by volunteering, or learn an important life or business lesson. The secret sauce is to consider the time you spend as an investment for personal or professional growth.

In just about six minutes, I’ve distilled the steps you need to do all that. And I invite you to listen closely to the bite-sized podcast.

In this episode, you will learn . . .

  • How to begin your day with purpose
  • Why saying you don’t have time is the excuse of whiners, mediocre performers, and people who chase the wrong priorities
  • How to spend each 24-hour day to get you closer to your goals
  • Why cutting the time spent on distractions such as TV, games, unnecessary naps, and social media will help you save time for more valuable activities

Quotes:

"Live life on your terms."

"It is not about time management, it is about self management."

"Grind over security and hustle over being comfortable."

Questions:

What's something very important to you that you want to spend more time on?

Nov 3, 2016

What single thing differentiates successful entrepreneurs from people who constantly struggle to make a mark?

Value. Entrepreneurs with a winning mindset give a ton of premium to value. They work full throttle to continuously make themselves and their products more valuable. These elite entrepreneurs persistently develop skills and habits that make their personal brand more valuable than others. They always go beyond what is expected to give their audience or customers that “added value” by crafting products or services that prominently stand out in a competitive market.

Value involves hard work, not loose talk. Anyone can say, “this is my goal and I will achieve it.” But not everyone has the grit and perseverance to actually do it. Hence, value resides in execution and implementation, never in baby talk. You can only generate value by going beyond expectations and taking the road less traveled. Reading a book will give you great ideas. But mere reading is easy. Real value happens when you act on the ideas you’ve learned. Similarly, going to seminars is expected of entrepreneurs. Anybody can do it. But winners go the extra mile by doing things other people can’t or won’t do. When you attend seminars, go out of your way to meet people, help ease their pain points, and build meaningful networks. That’s one way to generate real value.

So let’s have a quick talk about what real value is. We all know that if you are good enough, you will always find the means to make money or be successful. The problem with most entrepreneurs these days is that they focus on the wrong things. They want to take credit for things that are basically expected of them. Real value goes beyond that. Real value involves tough challenges that dissuade most people from ever doing anything.

Let's define what will bring value to your life right now. How would you know it? Listen as I get to the bottom of how to add value to your personal brand and become unstoppable.

In this episode, you will learn . . .

  • How to develop a value-focused mindset
  • What the baby effect is and why you should avoid it
  • How to determine the un-required things that you must do to get to the next level
  • How to find the hidden value in your daily actions

Quotes:

“If anyone can do something it's not very valuable.”

Let your execution and results do all the talking.”

“Focus on one or two things that you think are the most valuable in your life right now”

Question:

What's the one that's holding you back from becoming really valuable and unstoppable?

Think the world owes you something? No. You're not entitled to anything without hard work. On the contrary, you owe the world your best, and it's time to grind. Grind isn't a destination, it's daily work. Everyone needs to put on their working caps not only to put food on the table but also to earn favorable credentials as productive members of the community. Anyone who’s able to grind but doesn’t is a burden to everybody else.

But there’s more to life than the daily grind. And it’s called the hustle. Hustling is grinding on steroids. But to get high, hustlers don’t use drugs. They use strategic thinking, smart processes, goal setting, value generation, and positive psychology.  Vibe to the art of the hustle as I give you ideas and pointers to take your game to the next level.

Respect the hustle and results will follow. Here’s how: Forget inspiration and focus on habit. Your success depends more on habit than on inspiration because good habits consistently deliver results, whether you are inspired or not. In contrast, inspiration comes only once in awhile and you won’t get anywhere relying on something that’s not always there. Habits are part of you and pretty much work like an instinctive process. Imagine being on auto-mode with your destination set for success. That’s how hustling works and it takes new habits to hustle your way through your school work, career, business, or personal life.

Here are some strategic habits to 10x your results and stay ahead of the competition.

In this episode, you will learn . . .

  • How to determine and prioritize the activities that give you the highest value.
  • How to be in your own reality and set personal standards so that you always hit the ground running.
  • How to connect with people who share your values and motivations.
  • How to be selective on the content you consume.

Quotes:

“The grind is what separate you from competition”

“The biggest inspiration of all is seeing real results and progress”

“The grind doesn't stop for those looking to reach greatness”

In this episode, you will learn . . .

We’ll show you how to use your week’s biggest lessons and realizations, top wins as well as frustrations in setting reasonable goals and achieving them. We’ll also dive deep into the questions that you should be asking yourself regularly, questions that lead to tremendous improvements in your career, business, and personality. the weeks ahead.
